Firing

Electric kiln schedules run midweek and weekends depending on load. Workshop pieces are fired in house; drop-off firing for outsiders is limited.

Cone targets and cooling notes are explained during class. Cracks happen—we teach how to read them, not how to deny them.

Bisque and glaze loads are logged on a whiteboard. Your work is marked with initials and a studio code. We will not fire mystery clay from unknown sources that could damage shelves.

Cooling takes time. Opening early risks dunting—cracks from thermal shock—and we refuse drama openings for Instagram. Pickup emails go out when shelves are safe to touch.

Outside firing for community members is limited to scheduled drop-off days. Fees cover energy and wear, not babysitting of poorly dried work.

Shelf fees are calculated by footprint, not by optimism. Overhanging handles that risk neighbouring work may be refused until trimmed.

Questions about cone packs are welcome during open studio; guessing at temperature is how shelves get ruined.
